What People are Saying

Good food good value

“Had a lunch here recently. Restaurant is lovely inside and waitress was welcoming and friendly. Good choice on lunch menu. My husband and I were both very impressed with our meals, felt very authentic. Will definitely recommend.”

Great, real food. Taste is a priority

“Went to Magna Hungaria with my wife two days ago. Experience was beautiful: palinka for aperitif, half langos as a starter and fabulous lamb stew with egg noodles as a main. Experience was really shocking. Especially stew, full of natural taste and flavour. And also dessert.Nothing would work without very helpful and kind staff.

Will return definitely.”

A most friendly welcome

“Young staff desperately keen to please – though an order for beer came as a large glass of red wine. Interesting to the sample the largely potato-based cuisine: no idea of its authenticity, but it certainly reminded me of eating in Yugoslavia in the 1950s: not a condemnation – just that it is very simple food served very simply. The Gay Hussar it isn’t! But cheap as chips, and the beer (eventually) was excellent.”

Lunch near Haymarket Station

“Excellent lunch. Warm, delicious and hearty food with excellent service. Just what was needed on a cold afternoon.”

Plenty of good things

“This is a fairly new restaurant and there were clearly a few teething problems. However on a cold wet evening it was just the thing. I guess you could call it comfort food but it’s warming, filling and makes you forget it’s winter outside. I don’t know much about Hungarian food but what I had was delicious. The staff were polite and friendly without being intrusive and the Hungarian beer was good too. Well worth a visit I’d say.”

Like home

“Hungarian food the best. It was perfect lunch, taste like home. The price is cheap. Long time ago didn’t feel something good like that. Thanks a lot again.”

Hungarian food as it's best

“Went here for my birthday. It was a quiet evening but it meant that we had the undivided attention of the staff. Explained the type of dishes we had when we visited Budapest and they suggested similar dishes and also little ‘twists’ to said dishes. Utterly delicious! Will be back for more of the “szekelykaposzta” (hungarian cabbage) and informative chats with the friendly staff. Also try the Hungarian nokedli dumplings – drop-dumpling type similar to German spaetzle and are made by passing the dough through a noodle grater into boiling water.”

Work stopover

“Best Hungarian food I’ve had outside Hungary. Charming, helpful staff, great choice of food, reasonably priced. Will definitely be back. No problem dining there on my own”

Pleasant and Authentic Dining Experience

“We went with friends to this unique and quaint restaurant. The host/waiter was very helpful in explaining the different food options. The food was flavourful and well presented. An unpretentious, relaxed dining experience which we all thoroughly enjoyed!”

Great food and experience

“This place is just lovely and sticks to its root’s, there is not much fancy about this restaurant but what you get is a nice setting with delicious authentic Hungarian food.  We were here for our anniversary as we met in Budapest, the food brought back great memories and the staff were really nice.
The food was generous and flavoursome, it’s all a bit different to what we eat so it was nice to try something a bit different. We will definitely be back”

Excellent simple food

“YI had an excellent beef goulash – tender beef, lots of vegetables and dumpling-ettes and a rich gravy. Also had a very nice light hungarian beer. Pudding was brioche with lots of poopy seeds and custard. Very nice but enough for two! Pleasant, simple surroundings and attended by a very pleasant waiter. Overall, very enjoyable.”

An Enjoyable Taste of Hungary

“Good (filling) food. Hungarian beer and wine. Friendly and helpful service and even a joke or two thrown in. What’s not to like? Only word of caution – maybe ask, before ordering, how big the portions are, as some dishes are mighty hefty! 🙂 We had a great night in “Great Hungary” and I recommend you do too.”
